St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A historic home in St. Paul’s Cathedral Hill neighborhood appears to have been destroyed by a fire.

The St. Paul Fire Department responded to the castle-like house at 251 Dayton Avenue around 11:30 this morning, and according to tweets issued by the department’s public information officer, the home's thick stone walls hampered their efforts to battle the flames. Later tweets suggested much of the interior of the 7200 square foot residence had been gutted by the blaze.

Reports indicate the owners of the home, which was constructed in 1865, escaped without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
