Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the heaviest snow from today’s winter storm is falling in areas just south of Rochester.

As of Friday night, there was a report of over 10-inches near Austin and a foot near Brownsdale in Mower County. Over 7 -inches of snow was reported near Stewartville, while most of the reports in Rochester have been around  4 to 5-inches. The heaviest snowfall reports have come from southwestern Minnesota where 15-inches of snow fell in an area west of Windom.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect in parts of southeastern Minnesota, including Rochester until 6 AM Saturday. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service indicated another couple inches of accumulation is still possible tonight.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reporting that three of the agency’s snow plows have been hit by vehicles today while clearing snow from roadways in southern Minnesota. One of the incidents occurred this afternoon on I-35 in Freeborn County and resulted in two injuries. The State Patrol says a car driven by a 34-year-old Adriana Lazaro of Albert Lea rear-ended a snow plow on southbound I-35 near Clarks Grove around 1:30 PM. She and one of her passengers, 62-year-old Isidro Lazaro of Albert Lea, were transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Albert Lea to be seen for non-life threatening injuries.

At 11 PM Friday, the Department of Transportation was describing all major highways in southeastern Minnesota as completely snow covered with reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
