Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Oppressive heat is forecast across much of Minnesota this weekend.

The National Weather Service has included Rochester and all of southeastern Minnesota in a Heat Advisory from 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon through 7 o’clock Sunday evening. The forecast calls for the actual air temperature to rise into the 90s with heat indices reaching the mid-90's or higher.

Prolonged exposure to the heat, especially during the hottest part of the day, could be hazardous. People are urged to check on the welfare of family and friends, especially young children and elderly citizens. Pets will also feel the effects and will need extra water until cooler air arrives in the region.

The hot, sticky air fueled strong storms that hit portions of the Rochester late Friday afternoon. The storms produced heavy rain and hail as the fast-moving system moved across the north half of Olmsted County. The National Weather Service received reports of over an inch of rain in a half-hour and nearly 1-inch diameter hail in far northwest Rochester, near Douglas, and the Oronoco area.
