Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  - A big day Tuesday for the Rochester Senior Center.

Not only will the organization hold a groundbreaking event for its new facility that is being built at the Rec Center site, it will also unveil its new name and logo. It’s expected the name “ senior” will no longer  be used by the organization.

Work on the new center just started and is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The City Council has yet to make a decision on dealing with the project’s $1 million funding shortfall. Staff had recommended tapping a reserve fund for capital projects, but the Council withheld a decision to allow for additional discussion about other potential funding options.

The Senior Center is also scheduled to launch its Capital Campaign Tuesday. Its goal is to raise $2.5 million to pay for fixtures, furnishings and equipment for the new building.
