Greenway is beginning his 11th and last season with the Vikings.  He announced earlier that he would retire after this season. In the 2015 season, Greenway was named the Vikings' Community Man-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year for his charity work around the Twin Cities and South Dakota.

The Mount Vernon, South Dakota native played his college football at Iowa before getting drafted by the Vikings in 2006. The two-time pro bowler has played in 140 games going into this season.

The 12th annual Rochester Area Sports Banquet will be held on Monday, January 30th, 2017, which is a week before the Super Bowl. To secure Greenway, the Sports Commission had to write in a special agreement into the contract. “We agreed he was off the hook if the Vikings are in the Super Bowl."
