St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton has ordered state and U.S. flags lowered to half-staff at government facilities in Minnesota on Tuesday.

The order was issued in honor and remembrance of a Minnesota Corrections Officer who died in the line of duty last Monday. 37-year-old Officer Michael Parise suffered a medical emergency and collapsed shortly after he came to the assistance of another corrections officer who was being assaulted by an inmate at the Oak Park Heights State Prison.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea, his daughter and his baby due this Spring.

A celebration of Officer Parise’s life with public safety honors will be held Tuesday morning at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel beginning at 11 am.

The investigation into his death is ongoing. He was the second Minnesota Corrections Officer to die in the line of duty this year. Officer Joseph Gomm was murdered by an inmate at Stillwater State Prison on July 18th.
