COLUMBUS, Ohio (gophersports.com)  – A late Gophers goal forced overtime but Ohio State went on to beat Minnesota 2-1 Friday night..

Minnesota (10-8-1 overall, 4-6-1-1 Big Ten) outshot the home team 34-28 on the night but was unable to find the back of the net until 56:16 into the game when Rem Pitlick notched his team-leading ninth goal of the year at 16:16 of the third period. Pitlick’s equalizer was set up by Casey Mittelstadt and Scott Reedy as the Gophers forced overtime.

Tanner Lacyzynski put the Buckeyes (9-4-4, 4-4-1-0) up at 14:46 of the first period with the game’s lone power-play goal while Christian Lampasso tallied the game winner at 3:44 of overtime.

Eric Schierhorn made 26 saves in net for the Maroon & Gold. Minnesota went 3-for-4 on the penalty kill and 0-for-5 on the power play.

Minnesota closes out the first half on Saturday night with the series finale against Ohio State.
