Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - Two University of Minnesota men’s hockey teams have been awarded top seeds for the upcoming NCAA tournament.

The Gophers will join the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs at the tournament. In fact, they could wind up facing each other in the semi-finals. Denver is the overall top seed. Harvard is the other top seed.


The Gophers will face Notre Dame Saturday in the opening round. UMD will go up against Ohio St. on Friday.

According to the University of Minnesota, the Gophers set an NCAA record when they were selected for the tournament. The U of M will become the first team to appear in the tournament 37 times. Earlier this year, the Gophers also set an NCAA record when they won their sixth straight regular season conference championship.
