MINNEAPOLIS – Junior Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) scored two goals and eight different Gophers had at least one point as the No. 2 Minnesota women's hockey team secured a 4-0 shutout win over Minnesota State in front of 2,499 fans at Ridder Arena Saturday afternoon.

Brandt added an assist to her two goals to lead all players with three points. Minnesota (11-1-2, 9-1-2-0 WCHA) received a pair of assists from sophomore Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) and got goals from sophomore Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) and Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids, Minn.).

"We played a great game here tonight," head coach Brad Frost said. "We had a lot of good puck possession and lots of chances. Their goaltender played fantastic. Our power play again was good, and our PK was good all weekend. Limiting our penalties was great to see. Overall, I'm happy about the six points."

Minnesota State (0-13-1, 0-11-1-0 WCHA) was led by goaltender Erin Kirchiver, who made 48 saves after stopping 52 shots in Friday's 5-1 Gopher victory. For the weekend, Minnesota outshot the Mavericks, 109-29, and Kirchiver made 100 saves.

Redshirt freshman Sidney Peters (Geneva, Ill.) made eight saves in two periods for the Gophers in her second career win (2-0-1). Senior Shyler Sletta played the third period and made five saves in her second appearance of the weekend. Minnesota outshot the Mavericks, 52-13 on Saturday.

Cameranesi and Brandt gave the Gophers a quick 2-0 lead in the opening three minutes of the game. Cameranesi scored her fourth goal of the series at 2:34 of the first period before Brandt buried her first of the game just 25 seconds later.

The Gophers extended their lead to three before the end of the first period when Brandt again found the back of the net at the 10:19 mark of the opening frame. Stecklein and freshman Sydney Baldwin (Minnetonka, Minn.) assisted on the play, marking Baldwin's first collegiate point.

Bona then scored her second power play goal of the season midway through the second period on assists from sophomore Kate Schipper (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Stecklein. Despite holding a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal in the third period, the Gophers did not add to their lead and held on for the 4-0 win.

Minnesota was one-for-three on the power play and held Minnesota State scoreless on three power-play opportunities. For the series, the Gophers were three-for-eight with the man advantage and did not allow a power-play goal in four penalties.

"We really harped on the team all week about penalties," Frost said. "We felt we were taking too many dumb ones. This weekend we did a great job, taking only one penalty last night and I have no problem with the penalties we took tonight. If we can limit it to one or two each game, we'll be in great shape."

Cameranesi finished the weekend with four goals after scoring a hat trick against the Mavericks in Friday's 5-1 win. Brandt led the way with five points in the series as she and Cameranesi combined for nine points (seven goals, two assists) this weekend.

All three Gopher goaltenders saw two periods of action this weekend. Junior Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) started the weekend with 14 saves in the first two periods Friday, and Sletta stopped the lone shot she faced in Friday's third period before she and Peters split time today.

"We felt it was important to get Leveille a couple periods yesterday, and then Shyler came in and played well. Same with Sidney here tonight, we needed to get her some time and Shyler is somebody who, as a senior, hasn't played a lot but has earned the time, so it's good to see her be successful."

The Gophers are back at it Monday night, hosting St. Cloud State at Braemar Arena in Edina, Minn., for the 2014 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women’s Faceoff Classic.

"The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame approached us about the game," Frost said. "We're looking forward to the opportunity to play at a local rink with a great girls hockey association like Edina. Hopefully we'll have lots of young girls there who hope to play college hockey in the future."

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. CT Monday night, and tickets are on sale now through Braemar Arena. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, and the doors at Braemar Arena will open at 6 p.m. CT.
