Minnesota is seeking its first conference victory of the season after starting Big Ten play with losses at Ohio State, Penn State and Nebraska and home losses against Michigan State, Northwestern and Indiana.

Gopher men's basketball coach Richard Pitino says his team will be without freshman wing player Ahmad Gilbert for four weeks. Gilbert dislocated a finger on his shooting hand while diving for a loose ball in last Saturday's loss at home to Indiana. Gilbert had started the previous two games and Pitino says was developing into a nice defender.

The Wolverines are 3-2 in Big Ten play, most recently falling to Iowa in Iowa City, 82-71.  Pre-game coverage begins at 7 o'clock tonight with a 7:30 tip-off on 1340 KROC AM

Meanwhile, the University of Minnesota women’s basketball team will be looking to build upon their most recent victory when they welcome Northwestern to Williams Arena tonight.

The Gophers outlasted Indiana on Sunday to gain a 78-76 win and snap a two game losing streak. The Gophers have won four of their last five games at home.

Rachel Banham will come into the game with some newly awarded hardware. For the second week in a row and the third time this season she was named Big Ten Player of the Week.

The senior guard led the Gophers in scoring in both of their games in the past week including the win over Indiana when she scored 24 points and moved into third place on the conference’s all-time scoring list. She was one rebound shy of a double-double.
