Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) -- The top-ranked Goodhue girls basketball team started out with a 14-0 lead and went on to defeat Sacred Heart 77-66 in the opening round of the Class A girl state high school basketball tournament Thursday afternoon.

Maddy Miller led Goodhue with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists, while Taylor Larson scored 11 points and Sydney Lodermeier had 10 points.

As a team, Goodhue shot 53.6-percent from the field to advance the semifinals against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross at noon on Friday.

Winona is headed to the title game of the Class AAA girls state high school basketball tournament. The Winhawks defeated Becker 37-33 Thursday afternoon in the semifinals and will face Academy of Holy Angels in the AAA championship game at Williams Arena Saturday evening starting at 6 p.m.

Eden Nibbelink had 11 points and 7 rebounds for Winona, which is making its 2nd straight appearance in the state tournament
