BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Passers-by have rescued a woman after her vehicle slid off a Twin Cities highway ramp and into an icy holding pond.

The Star Tribune reports the woman's sport utility vehicle went off the ramp on the border of Eden Prairie and Bloomington and landed in the water just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The woman used a fire extinguisher inside her vehicle to break a rear window. The Minnesota State Patrol says other motorists stopped and one of them helped the woman get out of the vehicle.

The Patrol says the Good Samaritan risked his life walking out on thin ice to help pull the woman from her sinking SUV.

The woman was hurt from crawling through the broken glass. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
