Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A busy street in northwest Rochester is scheduled to reopen Monday.

The city says 55th Street between West Circle Drive and 50th Avenue will open in both directions.

The contractor will continue working on paving the bike trail, finishing remaining sidewalk connections, and completing installation of the signal system at 44th Avenue NW, which should be operational later this month.

The opening of the roadway may impact city bus routes and schedules. Commuters should check for changes that will be posted at bus stops in the vicinity of this project.

This is the first segment of a six-stage project that is scheduled to be completed next September.

Stage 3 - which involves work on the future alignment - will be graded by late 2016. The contractor elected not to begin Stage 2 until spring 2017.

Stages 4-6 are not nearly as large in scope or complexity as Stages 1-3. In April/May 2017 the project will resume and bring renewed road closures, lane restrictions, and detours.

This work will result in major travel impacts to those that travel in this corridor.
