Gil Gutkneckt for Speaker of the House

Gil Gutkneckt has thrown his hat in the ring for Speaker of the U.S. House.

The former First District Congressman made the somewhat tongue-in-cheek announcement during his appearance Friday morning on KROC-AM during Rochester Today with Andy Brownell. Gutkneckt pointed out the House rules do not require the speaker to actually be a member of Congress, and was upfront on what he would do to restore American's confidence in the U.S. House.

In the event House Republicans don't take him up on his offer to become the next speaker, Gil is hoping the GOP Representatives use the opportunity to engage in a real debate on the future of the party before reaching a consensus on the person who can lead them in that direction.
