Chacin, making his seventh start with the Angels since his May 11 trade from Atlanta, was charged with solo runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings.

The Angels, who ranked next-to-last in the American League in home runs, took a 3-1 lead on Giavotella's fourth of the season in the third inning off ex-Angel Ervin Santana (1-7).
Santana has lost his last five starts with an ERA of 7.71. He allowed five runs and 10 hits.
