Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A total of 35 applications were received by Friday’s deadline for the Rochester Police Chief position.

City Human Resources Director Linda Hillenbrand says four came from Minnesota. She says names won't be disclosed at this step in the process

Longtime Chief Roger Peterson is retiring in late April and the city would like to have a successor on the payroll by then.

Hillenbrand says the applications will be screened and the next step will be seeking more information from about two dozen of the original applicants. Hillenbrand anticipates 8 - 12 of the applicants will be offered screening interviews. They will be interviewed by a group that will include the mayor, a member of the City Council and the city administrator.

Hillenbrand says it’s expected three or four finalists will be selected from that list and they will be interviewed during a community forum in April. They will also be interviewed by the city’s Police Civil Service Commission, which will submit a final list to Mayor Ardell Brede for his decision.
