A former Vikings starting quarterback has been released by the Denver Broncos less than two weeks after they signed him. The Broncos had picked up former Vikings starter Christian Ponder after the injury to starting Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. He was inactive for the two games he was on the roster and never made it past third on the depth chart behind Brock Osweiler and rookie Trevor Siemian.

Minnesota selected Ponder in the first round with the twelfth overall pick in the 2011 draft. During his four seasons with the Vikings, he appeared in 38 games, starting 36 of them. His best season was in 2012, when he started all 16 games, throwing for 2,935 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He had been with the Oakland Raiders in the preseason, after signing a one-year contract that included a $1.5 million signing bonus, and he even appeared in a preseason game against the Vikings. However, the Raiders decided to cut him before the regular season started. Ponder had signed with Denver on November 25. Now, he’s once again a free agent.
