St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - There was a surge in flu activity in Minnesota last week.

The weekly update from the Minnesota Department of Health continues to rate overall flu activity statewide as “widespread.”

It shows 134 flu-related hospitalizations were reported to the health department. That’s up almost 35-percent from the previous week. Since the beginning of the flu season, over 500 people have become ill enough to require hospitalization after contracting influenza.

The number of probable outbreaks reported by Minnesota schools doubled last week to 18, and there were 11 confirmed flu outbreaks in Minnesota nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
