Undated (KROC AM News) - The storm system that hit southeastern Minnesota Wednesday afternoon dumped heavy rain in areas on both sides of the Mississippi River, especially in Wisconsin.

Rainfall totals from Nelson southward to La Crosse were in the 5 - 7 inch range and this led to widespread flooding. Water rescues and numerous evacuations were reported in the small town of Arcadia early Thursday and the downtown and most roads in the area were flooded. Flooded roads were also reported in the La Crosse area.

Heavy rain was also reported in northeast Iowa. The National Weather Service has also confirmed an EF-1 tornado ripped through the town of McGregor, Iowa, causing extensive damage to the downtown. Winds of 70-80 mph were reported in the Osage, Iowa area Wednesday afternoon, causing widespread tree damage.

Rainfall totals on the Minnesota side of the river were also high with 6 inches in Wabasha and 5 - 6 inches in Winona County.  Some mudslides were reported early Thursday along Highway 61 in Winona County.

There will be another threat of severe weather across the same areas Friday that includes 1 - 2 inches of rain.
