Fire Wipes out North Shore Landmark
TWO HARBORS, Minn. (AP) — A Two Harbors landmark has been destroyed by fire.
The Dixie Bar, Grill and Bottle Shop on Highway 2 caught fire early Monday. Two Harbors Fire Chief Mark Schlangen says it took about 30 firefighters three to four hours to contain the blaze. Schlangen says the bar and grill are a total loss. The bottle shop is still standing, but heavily damaged.
WDIO-TV reports a stream of people with lasting memories of the place stopped by Monday afternoon to see the damage. Cindy South says her high school class held its 40th reunion at the Dixie. Larry South says he used to stop with his parents as a small child to grab a hot dog and Coke on their way to the lake.
Schlangen says the business was an iconic part of the community for more than 50 years.
