ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul police are investigating a fight that broke out after the funeral of a 16-year-old shot by a man he reportedly was trying to rob at gunpoint.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports after Lavauntai Broadbent's funeral Thursday people gathered at Cherokee Park and later started fighting.

Police spokesman Steve Linders says a 23-year-old had been injured but his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Broadbent died July 31. The man accused of shooting Broadbent says a robber demanded he empty his pockets at gunpoint.

The man, who has a permit to carry a gun, shot the robber — later identified as Broadbent — saying he feared for his life.

Police have said the man has cooperated, and they presented the case to prosecutors Friday.
