An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s office was called to a rural property east of Rochester today to determine the cause of a fatal fire.

Olmsted County Sheriff Dave Mueller has confirmed the body of a person was found after firefighters put out the flames that destroyed a home on a farm in the 3700 block of County Road 107, which is about halfway between Elgin and Eyota.

The Dover and Eyota Fire Departments were sent to the scene around 10 a.m. and found the residence engulfed in flames.  It took about two hours to extinguish the flames, which returned as the smoldering wreckage of the home was hit by gusty winds this afternoon.

The name of the victim has not been released.
