She died last week just two months shy of her 80th birthday.

The service included honor guards from the city’s Fire and Police Departments, music from the local Bella Voce group and soloists, including a saxophone rendition of Mrs .Brady's favorite song, “A Summer Place.”

Bethel Pastor Rev. Norman Wahl gave a warm eulogy and talked of Judy Brede’s work ethic, strong will and her dedication to family - and University of Minnesota women's sports.

Following the service, an escort guided the Brede family and other mourners to Oakwood Cemetery where she was buried.

She and Mayor Ardell Brede were married at Bethel in 1961.

Among the items the family put on display at the church was Judy Brede's favorite red hat.
