Duluth, MN (Learfield News Service) - A former POW from Duluth is recalling his time with John McCain.

David Wheat first met McCain when they were prisoners of war in the "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War. Both had been shot down in the month of October, Wheat two years before McCain. Wheat spent seven years there, while McCain spent five, before Wheat came home to Duluth. He says he respected McCain, who spent 35 years in Congress. Wheat called McCain a "very devoted, honest individual."

McCain died Saturday at his ranch in Sedona, Arizona, after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.
