St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota State Patrol and several hundred local law enforcement agencies statewide are participating in a crackdown on drunk drivers.

The enhanced enforcement campaign began Friday and will run through the Labor Day weekend.

Officials say statistics show August is the worst month of the year for DWI offenders. Over the last five years, the state has averaged a little over 2500 drunk driving arrests during the month of August.

Crash statistics also show that, on average, drunk driving will be a contributing factor in one fatality and two crashes resulting in life-changing injuries during the Labor Day holiday period.
