Drowning in Western Minnesota Lake

Willmar, MN (MNN) - Authorities in western Minnesota are investigating an apparent drowning. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department says a 76-year-old Clara City man died after a pontoon boat tipped over Friday morning on Golden Pond, which Is a small lake located about 20 miles northwest of Willmar. Officials say Philip Thissen ended up trapped underwater for about 20 minutes and was dead by the time divers reached him.

There were two other people, both in their 70's, on the boat when the accident occurred. Officials say they were not injured.
