Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man described by Rochester police as highly intoxicated crashed into another vehicle early Tuesday and is lucky he and the other driver weren’t killed.

Police say the man was driving in the 2300 block of Marion Rd SE around 1:30 a.m. when he crashed into the passenger side of the other vehicle. The female driver of that vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

The man who caused the wreck fled on foot to a nearby business where he broke in and caused considerable damage. Officers were alerted when an alarm in the business was activated. The man was still when officers arrived and he was taken to St. Marys where he was treated for minor injuries and then jailed.

He has been identified as 30-year-old Corey Hummel, who has a Le Roy address. He refused to take a breath test so his blood/alcohol concentration was not immediately known.

A police spokesman says several mailboxes were found inside Hummel's vehicle. He had struck them just before the crash and some went through the windshield of his vehicle.
