Dozens Protest Shooting Death of St. Paul Man by Police
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Dozens of demonstrators have marched in St. Paul to protest the shooting death of a mentally ill man by police last year.
A group calling itself "Justice for Philip Quinn" briefly blocked the Green Line light-rail tracks and marched through several retail stores Saturday.
The Star Tribune reports the group was protesting Quinn's death in September in St. Paul during what his family said was a mental health crisis.
Police were responding to a report of a suicidal man cutting himself when they say Quinn ignored an officer's commands to drop a screwdriver he was holding and ran at the officer.
The protesters included Quinn's friends and family members as well as activists associated with the groups Native Lives Matter and Black Lives Matter.
There were no apparent arrests.
