Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The DMCC Board has agreed to consider expanding its development zone in the St. Marys Hospital area to accommodate the proposed Alatus project.

The large residential and commercial project would be located on the south side of 2nd St SW and west of St Marys.

The Destination Medical Center Corporation board was told at Thursday’s meeting that about a third of the project would be located outside the current boundary of the development zone. The board approved a resolution that calls for a 60 day public comment period on the request. Before the board heard from the  developer, local Judge Kevin Lund commented on the project. Lund and others who live in the surrounding Folwell neighborhood are opposed to the size of the project, which calls for a 13 story building and he echoed his concerns during his comments.

The board was also briefed on two new proposed DMC downtown projects.

One involves a residential building that would be built on the US Bank parking lot located between 1st Ave SW and Broadway. The other is a proposed hotel/residential project that would be built on the Days Inn site.
