Hampton, MN (KROC-AM News) - One person was killed and another was seriously injured this morning in an explosion outside Hampton that was heard over 10 miles away in Hastings.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Department says deputies and first responders from several area fire departments were called to a property on the south edge of Hampton shortly after 6 AM and found a man with severe burns over much of his body wandering around the wreckage of a home flattened by the explosion and fire. The man, who was transported to the Regions Hospital Burn Center in St. Paul, told deputies he was searching for his wife.

The emergency responders later located the woman’s body in the debris field created by the blast. At this time, investigators believe the man and woman were the only occupants of the home at the time. Their names have not been released and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.
