Work on the $11.3 million project is expected to begin right away

The board Tuesday also directed staff to begin planning for another expansion to accommodate future space needs.

That project - estimated at $9 million - calls for the construction of two unfinished floors above the Law Enforcement Center. It is expected to go to bid later this year.

The board reached its decision after being told construction costs have been increasing at high levels the past few years and are expected to continue rising.

Also discussed was the possibility of constructing a new building.

The projects are designed primarily to meet the space and security needs of the court system.

The Board also approved the creation of a new department head job for former Sheriff Dave Mueller. He held a department head position before he was elected sheriff four years ago and state law requires the county to allow him to return to that job or a similar one.
