MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police say a 5-year-old boy fatally struck by a car while trick-or-treating on Halloween ran across the road after getting out of a vehicle.

The boy was run over shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday along Victory Memorial Parkway in north Minneapolis.

According to the police report released Monday, the car "was unable to stop in time."

The Star Tribune says according to the report, the boy got out of a vehicle and ran across the road toward some houses before he was hit.

Authorities have yet to release the boy's name. Police say the motorist stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators. There was no indication of the driver being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
