MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jesse Chavez struck out seven and allowed one unearned run in 7 1-3 innings and the Oakland Athletics snapped Minnesota's five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory over the Twins on Tuesday night.

Chavez (1-2) gave up four hits and needed just 87 pitches for his first victory of the season. Billy Butler had two hits and an RBI and Billy Burns added two hits and a stolen base for the Athletics. Tyler Clippard went 1 2-3 innings for his third save in four chances.

Trevor May (2-2) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out three in 5 2-3 innings. Torii Hunter had two hits for the Twins, who were looking for their first six-game winning streak since 2011.

Twins place INF Eduardo Nunez on disabled list

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have placed infielder Eduardo Nunez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.

The Twins announced the move Tuesday night after a 2-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics. The move is retroactive to April 30.

Nunez hit .409 with four doubles in eight games for the Twins before getting hurt.

The Twins selected the contract of infielder Doug Bernier from Triple-A Rochester to take Nunez's place on the roster. Bernier hit .239 with one home run and six RBIs in 20 games for the Red Wings.
