A Rochester man was formally charged Monday with multiple counts of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation in connection with a head-on crash Saturday night.

One of the two young children injured in the collision near Mayo High School has since died from his injuries. Rochester Police say 9-year-old William Siems of Plainview was a passenger in a car driven by his aunt, 29-year-old Amber Bishop of Stewartville, when the vehicle was hit by a car that was headed the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of 12th street southeast. Bishop was treated for her injuries and released, but police say her 7-year-old son suffered serious injuries.

The other driver, 57-year-old Gerald Mohs, left the scene on foot but was arrested about two hours later near the Shopko North Store. A police spokesman says Mohs admitted he had been drinking and a preliminary test put his blood-alcohol-concentration at over twice the legal limit following his arrest.
