Part 3: Liberal Censorship is Criticized Left and Right

CNN’s Jake Tapper criticized President Obama’s Justice Department for labeling Fox News reporter James Rosen “a co-conspirator” for writing critical stories. Tapper criticized the media for its “disinterest” when the DOJ tapped Rosen’s telephones. Former Obama administration officials are now being investigated for “unmasking” and “monitoring” the Trump political team.

Liberal journalist Jonathan Alter called the Rosen case “disturbing.” Michael Shear (New York Times) said it was “absolutely chilling.” A NYT editorial claimed the administration showed “insufficient concern about a free press.”

Liberal journalist Kirsten Powers reported intimidation and censorship in her book, The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech (2015). Powers traced the “illiberal Left’s” attempts to attack and silence political and media critics, and dissenting voices on college campuses. Media colleagues then attacked Power’s liberal and Democrat credentials and credibility.

Former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson investigated Obama administration scandals, and described how they tried to silence her. In her book, Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama’s Washington (2015), Attkisson revealed that the administration pressured CBS about her. Attkisson experienced “opposition research,” and the “hacking” of her computer. Attkisson has also reported on Republican scandals and corruption in her 30-year career.

John Lawrence suggested in light of contemporary classified leaking issues and media bias, it is not difficult to believe Attkisson was investigated, hacked, and intimidated to silence her and hurt her credibility.

Another book reviewer concluded, “domestic spying” did not end with Nixon, and Obama’s claim of having “the most transparent administration in history” is a “sham.”
