MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rookie center fielder Byron Buxton has been put on the 15-day disabled list by the Minnesota Twins because of a sprained left thumb.

Minnesota made the move before Friday's game against the Brewers. Shortstop Danny Santana was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

Buxton was hurt trying to steal second base Tuesday, when his hand got caught underneath his body during the headfirst slide. Buxton played through the injury Wednesday, striking out in all four at-bats. Manager Paul Molitor told the team's flagship radio station KTWN-FM that Buxton will miss at least a month.

Santana will likely play some center field, where he played last season. Shane Robinson is the other option, with Aaron Hicks due back soon from a rehab assignment for a strained right forearm.
