Rochester, MN (KROC News) -  Local authorities are investigating two criminal incidents that were very similar.

Both involved elderly couples whose homes were entered while they were sleeping.

The first incident  happened around 1:45 a.m. Sunday at a Rochester residence in the 3500 block of 49th St NW. A man called 911 to report waking up to find an intruder in his bedroom. The intruder fled without taking anything.  

The other incident happened late Sunday night or early Monday at a rural residence in the 7600 block of County Rd 21 NE. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says a burglar was able to gain entry and made off with jewelry worth $9,000. The theft was discovered when the couple woke up Monday morning.

There was no sign of forced entry in either incident.
