Bloomington City Employee Fatally Injured at Work
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Bloomington officials say one city public works employee is dead and another seriously hurt after a sport utility vehicle rear-ended their truck last week.
38-year-old Tyler Lenort was a passenger in a city truck on snow-removal duty when the crash happened Thursday.
City officials said Monday that Lenort later died from his injuries. He was a city employee for 15 years.
The driver of the truck, 56-year-old Daryl Bittmann of Minneapolis, was injured. A hospital spokeswoman tells the Star Tribune that Bittmann is in satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Officials say the public works vehicle was stopped, with a large, lighted arrow directing traffic to move over.
KARE-TV reports the SUV driver remains hospitalized. Police believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash.
