St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The bird flu has hit a huge chicken farm in south-central Minnesota.

The latest update on the bird flu crisis indicates test results have identified presumptive outbreaks in eight more commercial poultry flocks in five Minnesota counties.

A single outbreak in Nicollet County involves a flock of over 1.1 million chickens.

The other outbreaks reported Monday were found in Kandiyohi, Swift, Renville, and Pipestone Counties, and raised the total number of birds killed or slated to be euthanized to over 5.3 million since the H5N2 virus was detected in the state in March. The virulent strain of avian flu is now been found at 80 farms in 21 Minnesota counties.
