Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - While the emphasis today is possible travel hazards over the busy Memorial Day Weekend, it’s also a good time to remind motorists of a major road closure that will start next week in downtown Rochester.

As part of the ongoing reconstruction of 4th street southeast between Broadway and 3rd Avenue, the Canadian Pacific Railroad will be replacing the track that crosses 4th street next to the Zumbro River. The project, which is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, will require closing 4th street to all through traffic for the next week or two. City officials note the closure includes pedestrian traffic along a heavily traveled route for many Mayo Clinic employees.

Vehicle traffic will be detoured to 2nd Street Southeast, while pedestrians will need to cross the Zumbro River on the pedestrian bridge north of 4th Street next to the Government Center.
