Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Very cold air settled over Minnesota Monday night with subzero temperatures being reported from Winona to Warroad.

Minus teens were common Tuesday morning in numerous cities with Embarrass and Fosston recording the lowest temperatures at 17 below zero.

Rochester’s unofficial low of 10 below is the coldest since it dropped to minus 11 on Feb 13. This is a huge difference from a year ago when the city experienced its 2nd warmest December on record. Temperatures stayed above zero the entire month.

This blast of arctic air is expected to continue into the weekend. Seasonable temperatures may return to the region by the middle of next week.

Another winter storm could also affect southeast Minnesota by the end of the week.
