If you haven’t yet, you may want to see if you have been affected by the Equifax security breach that was recently made public.

From everything I have read, it is a big deal and is already causing problems for many of those who were affected when hackers got into the Equifax servers.  I took the plunge last week and discovered I was likely a victim.  I then went to Clark Howard’s website and learned what to do to protect myself.  He is very well-informed and offers easy-to-follow advice and tips.

In a nutshell, use this link ( https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/ ) to see if you may be affected. If not, good.  But, you still may want to read what Clark Howard says about this. He says he has kept a freeze on his credit reports for years out of security concerns.

And that’s what security experts recommend for those affected by the Equifax hack. It’s fairly easy. Follow the instructions on Clark’s site

There was a $5 fee to freeze two of the reports. Equifax did not charge. Equifax is also offering one free year of ID theft protection, which is explained at their website.

Hopefully, you won’t be affected by this huge problem.  And if you have any advice, please share.

Good luck!

I also learned Monday that scammers are already moving in and contacting people through e-mails and phone calls, making offers, etc about dealing with the breach - and asking for your personal info, credit card numbers and so on.  Be careful!
