CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers shattered a pair of NBA playoff records for 3-pointers while taking a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Cavs set league marks with 18 treys in the first half and 25 total as they crushed the Atlanta Hawks 123-98. J.R. Smith led the 3-point barrage by hitting 7 of 13 attempts. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving each hit four 3s for the Cavaliers, who shot 56 percent from beyond the arc.

Golden State set league postseason marks with 12 first-half treys and 21 total in their rout of Houston just last week.

James finished with a game-high 27 points, Smith had 23 and Irving added 19 in the laugher.

Paul Millsap had a game-high 16 points for the Hawks, who will host Game 3 on Friday.

NBA-HEAT-BOSH

Bosh to miss rest of season

MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Heat and center Chris Bosh have announced that he will sit out the remainder of the playoffs, ending rampant speculation in recent days that Bosh would try to return to the court.

Bosh has not played since the All-Star break after a blood clot was discovered in his left leg. It remains unknown if he has dealt with any other clots or if he remains on blood thinners.

NHL PLAYOFFS-SCHEDULE

Pens beat Caps in OT

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The NHL's regular-season champions are now one loss away from scheduling tee times.

The Washington Capitals are down three games to one in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after Patric Hornqvist scored off a bad clearing attempt at 2:34 of overtime to give the Penguins a 3-2 victory over the Caps in Pittsburgh. Washington defenseman Mike Weber accidentally flicked the puck over to Hornqvist near the crease, allowing the Pens to grab their third straight win.

Washington struck first on Jay Beagle's goal 2:58 into the game before Hornqvist fed Trevor Daley for the equalizer later in the opening period. Matt Cullen and John Carlson traded second-period goals to make it a 2-2 game.

Matt Murray stopped 34 shots for the Penguins, who can wrap up the series as early as Saturday in Washington.

NHL-MESSIER AWARD

Messier finalists announced

NEW YORK (AP) — Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin, Islanders center John Tavares and Nashville defenseman Shea Weber are the finalists for the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award.

Messier selected the finalists and will pick the winner, who will be announced June 22 during the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

AP Source: Coyotes to promote Chayka to GM

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation has told The Associated Press that the Arizona Coyotes will promote 26-year-old John Chayka to general manager, making him the youngest GM in NHL history.

Chayka was hired as an assistant GM last year after serving as director of hockey operations for Stathletes, a hockey analytics firm he co-founded in 2009.

Coach Dave Tippett is expected to have a larger role in Arizona's hockey operations under Chayka.

Cubs continue winning ways

UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates had a chance this week to move into a tie with the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central lead. Instead, the Cubs have left the Steel City with a six-game lead after completing a three-game sweep of the Bucs.

Jon Lester worked in and out of trouble while tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Chicago's 6-2 win over the Pirates. Lester surrendered eight hits and two walks but lowered his ERA to 1.58. The lefty has allowed fewer than two runs in five of six starts this season.

Ben Zobrist opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the third inning of the Cubs' seventh victory in eight games. Anthony Rizzo was 3-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored as the Cubs improved to a major league-best 20-6.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Daniel Murphy was 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBIs and four runs scored in Washington's 13-2 laugher at Kansas City. Clint Robinson also drove in three runs and Bryce Harper homered to help Steven Strasburg improve to 5-0.

— Stephen Piscotty and Matt Holliday each laced RBI singles with two out in the bottom of the in the ninth to give St. Louis a 5-4 comeback win over Philadelphia. The Phillies led 4-0 in the fifth until Aledmys Diaz hit a two-run single and Piscotty followed with an RBI single.

— Lucas Duda smacked two of the New York Mets' four home runs in an 8-0 rout of Atlanta. Rene Rivera and Asdrubal Cabrera also went deep to support Steven Matz, who gave up two hits while fanning eight over 7 2/3 innings of the Mets' 10th victory in 12 games.

— Brandon Phillips, Eugenio Suarez and Zack Cozart hit third-inning homers before Adam Duvall provided another blast off Jake Peavy Cincinnati's 7-4 victory against San Francisco. Dan Straily got the win after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings to help the Reds win for just the third time in 13 games.

— Colorado beat San Diego 2-0 as Tyler Chatwood struck out seven while holding the Padres to three hits in seven innings. The Rockies got their runs on an RBI grounder by Cristhian Adames and D.J. LeMahieu's squeeze bunt.

— Giancarlo Stanton belted a two-run homer and Miami's bullpen tossed shutout ball over four innings of a 4-3 victory over Arizona. Winning pitcher Jose Fernandez fanned seven and allowed three runs in five innings before the surprising Marlins improved to 14-12.

— The American League-leading White Sox lost for only the fourth time in their last 15 games as David Ortiz smacked a two-run homer and had three RBIs in Boston's 5-2 victory in Chicago. Clay Buchholz held the White Sox to a pair of runs and three hits in seven innings to help the Red Sox win for the eighth time in 10 games.

— Toronto pulled out a 4-3 win over Texas on Russell Martin's walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. The Blue Jays trailed 3-1 until Edwin Encarnacion launched a two-run homer in the sixth.

— The Yankees' six-game skid is over after CC Sabathia scattered six hits over seven innings of a 7-0 drubbing of Baltimore. Brian McCann provided a two-run double and three RBIs, while Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-3 with two walks and a run.

— Steve Pearce hit a three-run homer and Tampa Bay added three solo shots in an 8-5 victory over the Dodgers. Brandon Guyer, Steven Souza Jr. and Curt Casali went deep to support Drew Smyly's five innings of two-run pitching.

— Houston set a team high for runs as Jason Castro, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa combined for three homers and 10 RBIs in a 16-4 romp over Minnesota. Castro hit a two-run blast and had four RBIs, while Altuve and Correa each went deep and collected three ribbies.

— Seattle completed its first sweep of the year as Dae-Ho Lee hit a solo shot and a go-ahead, two-run homer to lead a 9-8 win at Oakland. Nelson Cruz was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Mariners' 11th victory in 14 games.

— Corey Kluber fired a five-hitter with seven strikeouts in Cleveland's 4-0 shutout of Detroit. Mike Napoli and Yan Gomes hit RBI doubles in the Indians' four-run fourth.

— Mike Trout hit a solo homer and had two RBIs as the Angels downed Milwaukee 6-3. Los Angeles trailed 3-2 until Trout led off the eighth with a homer, C.J. Cron lined a go-ahead double and Johnny Giovatella delivered a two-run single.

MLB-RODRIGUEZ

ARod heads to DL

BALTIMORE (AP) — New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring suffered while running out a grounder last night in Baltimore.

A-Rod is on the DL for the seventh time in the last nine seasons, and the first since a hip injury in 2013. The 40-year-old Rodriguez is hitting .194 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 20 games this season.

HORSE RACING-KENTUCKY DERBY DRAW

Nyquist is Derby favorite, draws No. 13 post

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Nyquist has been made the early 3-1 favorite for the 142nd Kentucky Derby, with Exaggerator the second choice in the full field of 20 horses. Nyquist drew the No. 13 post as the colt tries to win the first jewel of the Triple Crown and improve to 8-0. Exaggerator drew the No. 11 post and is 8-1 for the 1 1/4-mile race Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Creator, Gun Runner and Mohaymen are the co-third choices at 10-1. Creator will break from the No. 3 post with Gun Runner in the No. 5. Mohaymen drew the No. 14 post.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Tar Heels welcome back Meeks

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Forward Kennedy Meeks has informed North Carolina that he will withdraw from the NBA draft and return for his senior season. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds with 28 starts, helping the Tar Heels win the Atlantic Coast Conference championship before reaching the NCAA title game.

NFL-MEAT

League warns player's about meat

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has warned players that some meat produced in China and Mexico may be contaminated with clenbuterol, a banned steroid. In a memo sent out by the league office, the NFL warned players that consuming large quantities of meat while visiting those countries may result in a positive test for the substance.

The league also reminded players that they are responsible for any substances found in their bodies.

The Oakland Raiders are scheduled to face the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football on Nov. 21 in Mexico City as part of the league's international series.
