Warriors still perfect...Nets break through...Aldridge leads Spurs in return to Portland

UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors are still perfect in the young NBA season. The 9-0 defending NBA champions tied a franchise mark for most wins to start a season with a 100-84 pasting of the Memphis Grizzlies. Stephen Curry led the way with 28 and Andre Iguodala added 20.

Harrison Barnes added 19 points for Golden State, which made 11 of 27 from three-point land. Curry was 9 of 21 from the field, but only 3 of 10 from outside the arc.

Marc Gasol had 26 points as the Grizzlies lost their fourth straight.

The game was the first between the teams since the Warriors defeated Memphis 119-69 on Nov. 2, the worst loss in Memphis franchise history

In other NBA:

— The San Antonio Spurs posted a 113-101 road victory over Portland. Ex-Blazer LaMarcus Aldridge had 23 points in his first game back in Portland for the Spurs. Kawhi Leonard added 20. It was a costly loss for the Blazers. Portland forward Meyers Leonard dislocated his left shoulder. He was averaging 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.

— Bojan Bogdanovic came off the bench to score a season-high 22 points with nine rebounds and lead the Brooklyn Nets to their first victory of the season, 106-98 over the Houston Rockets. The Nets are 1-7.

— Al Horford scored 26 points and the Atlanta Hawks rallied to beat the injury depleted New Orleans Pelicans. The 1-7 Pelicans led much of the way but couldn't hang on without star Anthony Davis, who sat out the game with a hip contusion.

__ Paul George scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Indiana Pacers to 102-91 victory over the Boston Celtics. The Pacers have won five of six.

— Kyle Lowry scored 23 points and Luis Scola had 21 to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 119-103 victory over the winless Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers have lost their first eight games of this season, and have lost 18 straight dating to March 27.

__ Cody Zeller scored on a layup off an inbounds play with six-tenths of a second left and the Charlotte Hornets held on for a 95-93 victory over the New York Knicks.

— Nik Vucevic hit a fallaway 18-footer at the buzzer to lift the Orlando Magic to a 101-99 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

__ Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 31 points to lead Dallas to a 118-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

— The Denver Nuggets edged Milwaukee 103-102 on Kenneth Faried's putback with five seconds left. Danilo Gallinari had 25 points to lead the Nuggets. Faried finished with 19.

— DeMarcus Cousins had a huge night -- 33 points and nine rebounds -- in leading the Sacramento Kings past Detroit 101-92. Andre Drummond had 14 points and 17 boards for the Pistons.

NBA-INJURY REPORT

Durant sidelined at least a week...Nuggets' Chandler out for season

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Thunder forward Kevin Durant will miss at least a week with a strained left hamstring. The All-Star was injured during the victory at Washington on Tuesday night. He will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days.

Durant has averaged 28.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.25 blocks to help lead the Thunder and new coach Billy Donovan to a 5-3 start.

In other NBA injury news:

— Denver Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler will undergo surgery on his right hip and is expected to miss the season. Chandler suffered a labral tear during the preseason and did not play in any of Denver's first seven regular-season games. He will endure a six-month rehab process but is expected to make a full recovery. The 28-year-old Chandler signed a four-year, $46 million contract extension this summer.

NHL-SCHEDULE

Crosby leads Pens over Habs

UNDATED (AP) — Sidney Crosby had two assists in regulation and scored the clincher in the shootout to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped both Montreal players in the shootout after Pittsburgh rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the third period. Fleury made 32 saves.

The Penguins improved to 10-5 after winning for the 10th time in 12 games. The Canadiens are still a league-best 13-2-2.

In the only other NHL game of the night, Edmonton beat Anaheim 4-3 in overtime. Teddy Purcell ended with a goal at 1:16 of OT.

NFL-MEETINGS

Cities trying to keep NFL teams pitch the league

NEW YORK (AP) — The cities of Oakland, San Diego and St. Louis made their pitches to save their teams from moving to Los Angeles.

Officials from those three cities spoke to a number of the league's committees about preventing the potential relocation of their teams.

The Raiders and Chargers have combined on a project in Carson, California, that would cost about $1.78 billion if approved by three-fourths of the 32 owners. Rams owner Stan Kroenke is pushing a rival project in nearby Inglewood.

The league has set a special meeting in Dallas on Dec. 2 at which substantial steps could come, including moving up from January the deadline for application to relocate.

NFL-NOTES

Bridgewater likely to start

UNDATED (AP) — Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater returned to practice just four days after suffering a concussion in Sunday's win over St. Louis. Coach Mike Zimmer says he expects Bridgewater will start in Sunday's game against Oakland. He was knocked out of the game with the Rams on a hit to the head by St. Louis defensive back Lamarcus Joyner.

Elsewhere around the league:

— The Packers have demoted running back Eddie Lacy and moved James Starks into the starting role. Lacy was a 1,100-yard rusher in each of his first two seasons in the league. This year he has tailed off with just 308 yards rushing on 83 carries in eight games. Lacy sprained an ankle in Week 2 and left Sunday's loss at Carolina with a groin injury.

— Baltimore is going to place tight end Dennis Pitta on injured reserve after doctors advised him that it was unsafe for him to come back from right hip surgery. The 30-year-old says he hopes to return to the team next season. Pitta dislocated his hip for the second time in as many seasons in Week 3.

— The New York Jets have lost right guard Willie Colon for the rest of the season due to chronic knee problems. Colon has been replaced in the line-up by Brian Winters.

—Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel says he does not expect to be punished by the NFL for his actions in a recent domestic incident. The league is investigating whether Manziel violated its personal conduct policy during a roadside argument with his girlfriend on Oct. 12.

OLYMPICS-LOS ANGELES 2024

LA bid gets some Magic

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hall of Famer and former Olympian Magic Johnson has been named vice chair of the group trying to lure the 2024 Olympic Games to Los Angeles.

The winner of five NBA titles with the Lakers says in a statement that Los Angeles is "the best sports town in America."

The International Olympic Committee will select the 2024 host in 2017.

Los Angeles is competing against Paris, Rome, Hamburg, Germany, and Budapest, Hungary.

OLYMPICS-DOPING

Putin orders probe into doping allegations

MOSCOW (AP) —Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on sports officials to carry out an internal investigation, in the wake of allegations of extensive state sponsored doping. Putin added that that clean athletes shouldn't be punished for the actions of those who take banned drugs.

Putin's comments reflected concerns that Russia's track and field athletes could be hit with a blanket ban for next year's summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Putin has ordered the investigation to be conducted with full cooperation with international anti-doping bodies.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

New deal for Gophers' interim coach

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The interim tag has been removed from the job title of football coach Tracy Claeys at the University of Minnesota. He took over the program when Jerry Kill suddenly retired earlier in the season because of health issues. Claeys and the University have now announced the signing to a three-year contract.

Since taking over for Kill the Gophers have lost to Michigan and Ohio State. In 2013 Claeys served as the interim coach and went 4-3, including four straight wins over Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana and Penn State.

Baseball great loses part of a leg

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock has had his left leg amputated below the knee due to an infection related to diabetes. The 76-year old Brock, who starred for the Cardinals, is undergoing therapy at an area St. Louis hospital and will be fitted for a prosthetic leg.

Brock stole a National League record 938 bases in his career. He hit.391 with four home runs and 10 steals in 21 World Series games.

Pinstripes deal

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — The Yankees have sent catcher John Ryan Murphy to the Twins for switch-hitting outfielder Aaron Hicks. The 26-year-old Hicks, who hit .256 with 11 home runs and 33 runs batted in in 97 games this year, was the14th overall pick in the 2008 amateur draft.

In other baseball news:

— The Seattle Mariners have re-signed outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to a one-year contract after a surprisingly productive 2015 season. Gutierrez hit .292 with 15 home runs and 35 RBIs in 59 games with the Mariners.

— The Miami Marlins' feud with super-agent Scott Boras has escalated, and the team says he'll be left out of any contract negotiations regarding ace Jose Fernandez. Team president David Samson pledged to exclude Boras after the agent complained about the Marlins' handling of another one of his clients, outfielder Marcell Ozuna.

__ Stephen Strasburg's agent says the Washington Nationals pitcher has had surgery to remove a non-cancerous growth from his back. Agent Scott Boras says Strasburg, who was 11-7 with a career-high 3.46 ERA last season, is "fine now."

MLB-HANSON DEATH

Ex- pitcher may have died from an overdose

ATLANTA (AP) — The emergency call for former major league pitcher Tommy Hanson was described by sheriff's officials as an "overdose." The report says Hanson wasn't breathing as rescue crews tried to help him at a friend's home south of Atlanta. They typed "overdose" in a small section titled "crime incident."

The 29-year old Hanson died Monday night at an Atlanta hospital. The coroner says that an autopsy began Tuesday and that the cause and manner of death are under investigation.

SPORTS-MEDIA

Dodgers hire 27-year-old TV announcer

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers have hired a 27-year-old announcer to join their broadcast booth in 2016, which is expected to be Vin Scully's final season on the air.

Joe Davis joins the Dodgers from Fox Sports, where he calls major league baseball and college football and basketball. Davis will call 50 road television games on SportsNet LA with Orel Hershiser and Nomar Garciaparra. Charley Steiner will handle TV play-by-play for the other road games on the team's TV home and join Rick Monday on radio broadcasts.

Scully, who turns 88 on Nov. 29, has said he expects next year to be his 67th and last season.
