UNDATED (AP) — All is right in the Chicago Cubs' universe once again after they bounced back from Friday's loss to the National League's worst team.

Jake Arrieta (ar-ee-EH'-tuh) picked up his 10th victory and the Cubbies banged out four home runs in an 8-2 rout of the Braves in Atlanta. Arrieta rebounded from his first loss since last July 25th, allowing two runs and four hits over seven innings to improve to 10-1 with a 1.86 ERA.

Arrieta joined White Sox ace Chris Sale and Washington hurler Stephen Strasburg as the majors' only 10-game winners.

Miguel Montero's three-run blast put the Cubs ahead 5-0 in the fourth inning. Kris Bryant added a two-run blast, and Jason Heyward and Anthony Rizzo hit solo shots. Heyward had three hits as the Cubs improved to a major league-best 41-18.

Meanwhile, the defending World Series champs put an end to their eight-game losing streak. Danny Duffy struck out 10 in six shutout innings as the Royals knocked off the White Sox 4-1 in Chicago. Cheslor Cuthbert was 3-for-4 with a pair of homers to help Kansas City end its longest losing streak since an eight-game slide in May 2013.

White Sox starter Jose Quintana lost his sixth consecutive start despite fanning 10 in eight innings.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Matt Holliday ripped a three-run homer and Carlos Martinez pitched into the ninth inning of the Cardinals' 5-1 win at Pittsburgh. Martinez gave up six hits in 8 1/3 innings and blanked the Pirates until Josh Harrison lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The Cardinals earned their third straight win and moved into sole possession of second place in the NL Central, nine games behind the Cubs.

— Washington won for the eighth time in 10 games as Tanner Roark (ROH'-ahrk) worked seven innings and provided an RBI bunt single in an 8-0 rout of Philadelphia in Washington. Anthony Rendon (rehn-DOHN') and Stephen Drew drove in two runs apiece to back Roark, who is 2-0 with a 0.83 ERA in three starts versus the Phillies this season. Bryce Harper's RBI single capped the Nationals' four-run second.

— The Nationals lead the NL East by 3 ½ games over New York after Ryan Braun belted two of Milwaukee's five home runs in a 7-4 win over the Mets. Chris Carter began the Brewers' power surge with his 17th homer, pitcher Wily Peralta (WIH'-lee peh-RAHL'-tah) launched his first major league round-tripper and Scooter Gennett (jeh-NEHT') went deep. The Mets ended a three-game winning streak despite homers by Asdrubal (as-DROO'-bul) Cabrera and Curtis Granderson.

— Boston moved into a first-place tie with Baltimore in the AL East as Jackie Bradley Jr. and Xander Bogaerts (ZAN'-dur BOH'-gahrts) each homered and drove in three runs apiece to lead the Red Sox's 15-4 assault onMinnesota. Bogaerts is hitting .358 after going 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Sandy Leon also had four hits and two RBIs for the Bosox, who received 4 1/3 shutout innings from their bullpen.

— Baltimore absorbed an 11-6 loss in Toronto behind Edwin Encarnacion's (en-kar-nah-see-OHNZ') two home runs and five RBIs. The Orioles led 4-3 until the Blue Jays scored five times in the sixth, capped by Encarnacion's three-run blast. The Orioles wasted homers by Joey Rickard, Chris Davis and Manny Machado.

— Ian Kinsler crushed a three-run homer and had a career-high five RBIs as Detroit ended the New York Yankees' five-game winning streak, 6-1. Justin Verlander held the Yankees to a run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings to help the Tigers end a two-game skid.

— Carlos Gonzalez and Luis Valbuena belted solo homers to help Houston beat Tampa Bay 4-3. The game was tied 2-2 until Marwin Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch by Erasmo Ramirez in the eighth. Evan Longoria and Brad Miller homered for the Rays.

— Cincinnati pulled out a 2-1 win against Oakland on Jay Bruce's two-run homer in the third inning. Dan Straily worked six scoreless innings after allowing Danny Valencia's RBI single in the top of the first. Losing pitcher Daniel Mengden gave up six hits and four walks while striking out five over 5 2/3 innings in his major league debut.

— Charlie Blackmon's solo shot snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning of Colorado's 5-3 verdict over San Diego. Carlos Gonzalez smacked a three-run homer and Tyler Chatwood worked into the seventh for his eighth win. Gonzalez had four RBIs in the Rockies' fifth win in seven games.

MLB-TRANSACTIONS

Injured players to the DL

UNDATED — Twins pitcher Phil Hughes could be done for the season after breaking a bone above his left knee. Hughes suffered the fracture when he was hit in the leg by a line drive on Thursday. The break is expected to take six to eight weeks to heal.

In other major league injury news:

— The Rockies have placed closer Jake McGee on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation. The left-hander has converted 15 of 18 save opportunities this season.

— San Diego right-hander Andrew Cashner is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained neck, prompting the Padres to recall righty Erik Johnson from Single-A Lake Elsinore. Cashner left Friday's start after just six pitches due to upper back and neck tightness.

— The Pirates have put catcher Francisco Cervelli on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left hand that is expected to sideline him four to six weeks. He was injured while swinging the bat on Friday, causing the Bucs to acquire backup catcher Erik Kratz from the Angels for cash.

— The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed utilityman Chris Owings on the 15-day disabled list with a foot injury. Right-hander Zack Godley was recalled from Triple-A Reno to make the start in Saturday night's start against Miami.

HORSE RACING-BELMONT

Creator wins by a nose

NEW YORK (AP) — Three Triple Crown races, three different winners.

Creator became the 10th biggest longshot to win the Belmont Stakes, beating Destin at the wire to win the final jewel of the Triple Crown. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. earned his first Belmont Stakes victory by maneuvering Creator from 12th through the 13-horse field. The Steve Asmussen-trained Creator paid $34.80 for a two-dollar bet. Lani finished third.

Preakness winner Exaggerator finished 11th. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist skipped this race.

SOCCER-COPA AMERICA

Americans reach quarters

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The United States has advanced to the Copa America quarterfinals.

Clint Dempsey's first-half goal was just enough for the Americans to beat Paraguay 1-0 in Philadelphia. Dempsey scored his 51st international goal in the 27th minute, but the Americans' defense was upended when DeAndre Yedlin received two yellow cards during the first three minutes of the second half.

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan made an outstanding body stop on a short-range shot in the 82nd minute, then made a kick save on an attempt off the rebound. Gustavo Gomez put the ball past Guzan in the 89th but whistled for offside.

OLYMPICS-MEN'S BASKETBALL

U.S. roster options thinning

UNDATED (AP) — The list of potential players for the U.S. men's basketball team at this summer's Olympics has been reduced by two more. Russell Westbrook and James Harden are choosing to stay home and not go for their second straight gold medal. Neither gave a reason why he has decided to not make the trip.

Their decision comes days after Stephen (STEH'-fehn) Curry announced he wouldn't play. Forwards Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge also have withdrawn because of injury.

INDYCAR-TEXAS

Munoz on the pole

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) —Carlos Munoz (MYOON'-yohz) will from the pole once the rain-delayed Firestone 600 begins tonight at the high-banked Texas Motor Speedway.

Defending race winner Scott Dixon qualified second at 216.901 mph. Four-time Texas winner Helio Castroneves (EHL'-ee-oh kas-troh-NEH'-vehz) starts third on the 1 1/2-mile oval.

F1-MONTREAL

Qualifying in Montreal

MONTREAL (AP) — Defending champion Lewis Hamilton has earned the pole position for Sunday's F1 Canadian Grand Prix. This marks the second straight year and fifth time in his career that the two-time defending world driving champ has won the pole in Montreal.

Mercedes teammate and championship leader Nico (NEE'-koh) Rosberg will start next to Hamilton on the front row, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo (rih-KAHR'-doh) on the second row.

LPGA

Ko leads the way

SAMMAMISH, Wash. (AP) — Lydia Ko has a one shot lead over Gerina (jur-EE'-nuh) Piller and Brittany Lincicome (LIHN'-sih-kohm) after three rounds of the Women's PGA Championship. Ko will start the final round at 2-under after a third-round, 1-under-70.

Berger continues to lead

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Daniel Berger has a three-shot lead after three rounds of the PGA's St. Jude's Classic. Berger's 1-under 69 leaves him 10 under for the tournament and three strokes ahead of Phil Mickelson, D.A. Points and Steve Stricker. Points climbed the leaderboard with a 6-under 64.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

Langer leads

FLOURTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Two-time defending champ Bernhard Langer (LAHN'-gur) stands in first after three rounds of the Champions Tour Constellation Senior Players Championship. The German shot a 1-under 69 that puts him 2 under, three shots in front of Jay Don Blake.

Jeff Sluman (SLOO'-mihn), Woody Austin, Wes Short Jr., Bart Bryant and Brandt Jobe (johb) are tied for third at plus-2.
