UNDATED (AP) — There's a new leader in the American League East following Toronto's lopsided victory and the New York Yankees' loss at home.

The Blue Jays clobbered the Angels 12-5 to complete a three-game sweep and move a half-game ahead of the Yankees. Edwin Encarnacion led the Jays' attack by going 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. The Blue Jays scored 36 runs in the series to set a team record.

R.A. Dickey picked up his fifth straight win since a 3-10 start despite allowing five runs and 11 hits in six innings. All five runs came in Dickey's 39-pitch first inning.

The Yankees erased a 3-1 deficit before Francisco Lindor homered in the eighth inning to send Cleveland to a 4-3 victory in the Bronx. Carlos Santana also homered to help the Indians win for the fifth time in their last six games at Yankee Stadium.

Yanks starter CC Sabathia left in the third inning because of pain in his right knee.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Houston completed a three-game sweep of the Dodgers by pulling out a 3-2 victory on Jason Castro's home run in the bottom of the 10th. The Dodgers were one out from a 2-1 win before Marwin Gonzalez laced an RBI single. Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw allowed a run and seven hits while fanning 10 over eight innings before the Dodgers dropped their fifth in a row, keeping their lead in the NL West at 1 ½ games over San Francisco.

— The Rangers stayed four games behind the AL West-leading Astros by beating Detroit 4-2. Mike Napoli and Chris Gimenez homered for Texas, and Mitch Moreland put the Rangers ahead to stay with a two-run double in the sixth. Cole Hamels gave up two runs in six innings for the Rangers, who are 1 ½ games ahead of Minnesota and the Angels for the AL's second wild-card berth.

— The Twins pulled out a 4-3 win at Baltimore on errors by infielders Manny Machado and Jimmy Paredes in the 12th inning. Miguel Sano  hit a two-run homer and Trevor Plouffe provided the tying single with two out in the ninth before the Twins completed a four-game sweep. The Orioles wasted a great outing by Kevin Gausman and fell two games behind Texas for the final AL wild-card berth.

— Minnesota remains 12 ½ games off the AL Central lead after the first-place Royals scored four times in the ninth to beat Boston 8-6. Eric Hosmer tied it with a two-out, two-run single before Mike Moustakas laced a two-run double. The Royals mounted the rally and earned a four-game split after Omar Infante was thrown out trying for an inside-the-park homer to open the ninth.

— Logan Verrett was fantastic while starting in place of Matt Harvey, holding the Rockies to a run and four hits in eight innings of the New York Mets' 5-1 verdict over Colorado. Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI for the Mets, who also scored twice on wild pitches in the second inning. The Mets completed a sweep of the seven-game season series to stay five games ahead of second-place Washington in the NL East.

—Danny Espinosa hit a three-run double and the Nationals also got homers from Anthony Rendon and Wilson Ramos in a 9-5 triumph over Milwaukee. Bryce Harper doubled twice as the Nats completed their second straight series victory since a six-game losing streak.

— St. Louis avoided a three-game sweep as Stephen Piscotty homered twice and had five RBIs in a 10-3 pounding of San Diego. Michael Wacha is 15-4 after allowing one run and four hits in six innings of his fourth straight win. The Cardinals are a major league-best 78-45 and lead the NL Central by 3 ½ games over Pittsburgh.

— The Pirates earned a 5-2 triumph over San Francisco to keep pace with the Redbirds. The Pirates scored three times in the bottom of the first before Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez added solo homers. Winning pitcher Francisco Liriano was reached for seven hits and three walks in just 5 1/3 innings, but he surrendered just a pair of unearned runs.

— Kris Bryant smacked two of the Cubs' five home runs and drove in three in a 9-3 win over Atlanta. Miguel Montero homered for the second straight day and had 3 RBIs to help Chicago complete a four-game sweep.

— Oakland erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to beat Tampa Bay 8-2. The rally included Eric Sogard's tiebreaking, two-run single, Mark Canha's base-loaded triple and two hits from Stephen Vogt. The loss drops the Rays 2 ½ games out of an AL playoff berth.

— Robinson Cano (kah-NOH') belted a two-run homer and Nelson Cruz doubled in two runs to help Seattle beat the White Sox 8-6 to avoid a three-game sweep. The Mariners saw a 7-1 lead cut to 7-6 before Ketel Marte delivered a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Jose Abreu (ah-BRAY'-oo) hit his 23rd homer for the White Sox.

— Chris Anderson pitched into the seventh inning to help Arizona send the Reds to their ninth straight loss, 4-0. Welington Castillo and David Peralta homered as the Diamondbacks completed their first four-game sweep over the Reds. Cincinnati's Raisel Iglesias struck out 13 in seven innings, the most by a Reds rookie since Gary Nolan fanned 15 Giants in 1967.

— Rookie Aaron Nola pitched a career-high eight innings, yielding just three hits in Philadelphia's 2-0 win over Miami. Nola improved to 4-1 and allowed just one runner to advance beyond first base. The Phillies first round pick in the 2014 draft lowered his ERA to 3.59 and improved to 4-0 in his last six starts.

Buckeyes top AP poll

UNDATED (AP) — Ohio State is the first unanimous preseason No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll.

The defending national champions received all 61 first-place votes from the media panel in the rankings. Since preseason rankings began in 1950, no team has received more than 97 percent of the first-place votes in a preseason poll.

TCU is No. 2, followed by Alabama, Baylor and Michigan State. The rest of this year's preseason top 10 is Auburn, Oregon, Southern California, Georgia and Florida State.

Finley gets starting nod

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Sophomore Ryan Finley has been named the starting quarterback for No. 23 Boise State for its season opener against Washington.

Finley was in a four-way race for the job with Tommy Stuart, Alex Ogle and freshman Brett Rypien (RIH'-pehn). Finley had the most experience of the four quarterbacks after appearing in five games last season as a redshirt freshman, completing 12 of 27 passes for 161 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-SARKISIAN APOLOGY

Sarkisian is sorry for remarks

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California football coach Steve Sarkisian has issued a written apology for his behavior and inappropriate language at a team event Saturday night.

Several people who attended the event took to Twitter afterward to say that the second-year Trojans coach appeared to be drunk while using profane language in praising his team.

Athletic director Pat Haden said he spoke to Sarkisian privately about his behavior.

Packers Nelson hurt

UNDATED (AP) — Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson left Green Bay's exhibition game against Pittsburgh in the first quarter on Sunday with a potentially serious left knee injury.

Nelson fell to the ground when he tried to cut after making an 8-yard reception on Green Bay's opening drive. He was able to walk off the field but did not return.

Nelson caught a career-high 98 passes in 2014 while making the Pro Bowl for the first time.

He will be re-evaluated in Green Bay on Monday.

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey left the game in the first quarter with a left ankle injury. The four-time Pro Bowler was blocking in front of running back Le'Veon Bell when Packers cornerback Ha Ha Clinton-Dix rolled onto Pouncey's leg while making a tackle. Pouncey lay on the Heinz Field turf for several minutes before walking off under his own power. Coach Mike Tomlin said Pouncey is out indefinitely and will likely require surgery.

— Giants starting safety Bennett Jackson suffered a season-ending knee injury in an exhibition win over Jacksonville on Saturday.

— Falcons receiver Roddy White will undergo a minor surgical procedure on his right elbow, but the team expects him to be ready for the Sept. 14 season opener against Philadelphia.

— Robert Griffin III has returned to practice, three days after the Washington quarterback left the exhibition game against Detroit because of a concussion.

— Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel cut his practice short after experiencing soreness in his right elbow and could be sidelined for a few days.

Hunter-Reay wins, teammate Wilson injured

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — IndyCar driver Justin Wilson was in a coma and in critical condition Sunday night after sustaining a head injury during a race that afternoon at Pocono Raceway.

Wilson was injured when hit by a large piece of debris that broke off a car in the crash-filled race.

IndyCar released the information on Wilson's condition Sunday night and said he was undergoing further evaluation at Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital in Allentown.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the race, finishing ahead of Josef Newgarden and IncyCar points leader Pablo Montoya.

FORMULA ONE-BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Hamilton wins again

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium (AP) — Pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton has captured the Belgian Grand Prix, holding off Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg and padding his lead in the Formula One championship standings.

The defending champion was two seconds ahead at the finish line for his sixth victory in 11 races this season. Hamilton's 39th career win gave him a 28-point lead over Rosberg with eight races left.

GOLF-WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Love scores, Tiger falters

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Davis Love III has won the Wyndham Championship to become the third-oldest winner in PGA Tour history, while Tiger Woods' season came to an abrupt end.

The 51-year-old Love closed with a 6-under 64 for a one-stroke victory over third-round leader Jason Gore.

Woods needed a win to earn a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs opener next week. He started just two shots off the pace but shot a par 70 to finish four back.

LPGA-CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN'S OPEN

Ko wins again in BC

COQUITLAM, British Columbia (AP) — Lydia Ko has won the Canadian Pacific Women's Open for the third time and first as a professional, beating Stacy Lewis with a par on the first hole of a playoff.

The 18-year-old Ko finished with an even-par 72 to match Lewis at 12-under 276 at Vancouver Golf Club.

CHAMPIONS TOUR-BOEING CLASSIC

Andrade takes senior win

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) — Billy Andrade won the Boeing Classic for his second Champions Tour victory and first in an individual event.

Andrade closed with a 1-over 73 to finish at 9-under 207 at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. He opened with rounds of 69 and 65 to take a three-stroke lead into the final round.

Bernhard Langer finished one stroke back.

HORSE RACING-TRAVERS-AMERICAN PHAROAH

American Pharoah to run in Travers

UNDATED (AP) —Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will run in the Travers Stakes at a sold-out Saratoga Race Course on Saturday.

American Pharoah would only be the fourth of 12 Triple Crown winners to run in the Travers, a race also known as the "Mid-Summer Derby." The only one to win was Whirlaway in 1941.

Bolt edges Gatlin

BEIJING (AP) — Usain  Bolt came roaring from behind in the final stride to edge Justin Gatlin for the 100-meter title at the world championship. The Jamaican two-time Olympic champ trailed for most of the sprint, but with a final lunge nipped Gatlin at the wire by one-hundreth of a second. Bolt earned his third world title in 9.79 seconds, ending Gatlin's two-year winning streak put together while Bolt was recovering from injuries.

TENNIS-CINCINNATI

Federer, Serena win again

CINCINNATI (AP) — Roger Federer remained perfect in Cincinnati finals, winning an unprecedented seventh championship while denying Novak Djokovic  the one title that always eludes him. Federer never faced a break point during a 7-6, 6-3 victory in the final of the Western & Southern Open.

Serena Williams got her name on the Cincinnati trophy for the second time, beating Simona Halep 6-4, 7-6 in the U.S. Open tune-up.
