SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a suburban Minneapolis police officer shot and killed a person who pointed a gun at the officer.

Police say officers were called to a residence in Shakopee shortly after 11 p.m. Friday for a fire alarm. Officers were met at the front door by a man with a gun. The man allegedly raised the weapon and pointed it at the primary officer.

The Shakopee police statement says the officer feared for his life and fired his weapon. The man who was shot was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police have not released the name of the officer, who is a 12-year veteran of the force. Officers were wearing body cameras, and the incident was recorded.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting.
