Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - On Monday, July 30th, another historic event will happen in the city of Rochester.

It is the first time that the city will swear in two new chiefs at the same time.

The City of Rochester will be swearing in two new chiefs. Eric Kerska will officially take the oath of office as the Fire Chief and James Franklin will do the same as the City’s Police Chief. The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. at the Mayo Civic Center.

Kerska officially took over the role of Fire Chief on June 30th. The new chief served as a Battalion Chief, Fire Captain and Firefighter all with the City of Rochester. He has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Sciences from John Woods College. He is a retired Colonel in the Army National Guard.

Franklin serves as the Captain over the West Command Division of the Metropolitan Transit Police in Minnesota, and he will start with the City of Rochester on July 26th. He has previous experience as a Lieutenant for the Administrative Division/Homeland Security with Metropolitan Transit Police, and a patrol officer and detective with the Plymouth Police Department.

The public is welcomed to the ceremony.
