ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) €” An anonymous Minnesota resident is suing the state over its decision to drop UCare for public health care programs in a competitive bid process.

UCare dropped its own lawsuit with the state this week, wishing to avoid more upheaval for its 370,000 customers who need to pick new plans for next year.

But a lawsuit filed in Ramsey County on Wednesday alleges the state is required to offer free choice of plans to Medical Assistance enrollees. It also alleges the state must provide customers an avenue to keep their current health care providers.

The lawsuit was filed by a person using a false name who is on a UCare plan. Attorney Peter Erlinder says his client fears retaliation.

State officials declined to comment on the case until reviewing it further.
