Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council is scheduled to hold a hearing Monday evening on the proposed Alatus  project.

The proposed 13 story building and a 560 space parking facility would be built near St Marys Hospital. The Council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The city Planning and Zoning Commission recently reviewed the project and sent it to the council without a recommendation.

The Council will be briefed Monday afternoon on the city’s 2017 property tax levy.

City Administrator Steve Kvenvold says an extra $5.7-million is needed next year just to maintain current services.  About a fourth of that amount is due to an increase in health insurance premiums.

The Council is expected to adopt the maximum 2017 property tax levy next week. The final figure will be adopted in December. Between now and then, the council will have to deal with budget requests that would increase property taxes by $15-million.
